Ever since I can remember, I wanted to be a writer. It all began when I won a school prize for a fourth-grade creative writing project (an exciting series about the ups and downs of the Gumdrops, a fourth-grade kickball team). I was hooked.
Since then, I have been writing non-stop from high school to college to my first job over 10 years ago as a sports writer covering Florida State University football for the Thomasville (Ga.) Times-Enterprise. From there, I worked at the Greenville (S.C.) News-Piedmont until I moved to Baltimore in 1996 to work at the Baltimore Sun where I became the special sections manager, overseeing over 200 sections a year.
In 2002, I made the leap into the freelance writing world and have written about an array of topics – from interior design, travel, real estate, education, healthcare and home improvement to weddings, fitness and history. I have been published in the Baltimore Sun, do! magazine (a national home improvement magazine), Washington Post, WHERE Baltimore, Maryland Family, Baby Steps, Baltimore Construction News, Washington Construction News, Career Focus, Daily Record, Port of Baltimore Magazine and as a restaurant critic for the Washington Blade. Whatever the assignment or topic, I deliver well-written, concise and engaging content – always on deadline. As an editor myself, I understand the importance of adhering to deadlines and aim to make life for other editors easier by delivering on time.
Additionally, I am the editor of Mason-Dixon Arrive (www.mdarrive.com), a monthly lifestyle magazine, the co-author of two books from Arcadia Publishing, Images of America: Woodley Park and Images of America: Capitol Hill and proprietor of Pen & Ink, LLC, a freelance writing and editing company.
I earned a bachelor’s degree in newspaper journalism from the University of Georgia and have performed corporate communications work for the DC Department of Planning - Historic Preservation Office, Ford Motor Company, MSN, Comcast Cable, Stevenson University, Provident Bank and Kelsey & Associates, Inc., and assisted HGTV with the production of a television show.
